Protostega (early roof) is an extinct genus of marine turtle that lived throughout the Late Cretaceous Period[1]. It contains the species P. gigas. Large individuals could reach up to three meters (10 feet) in total body length, making it the second-largest known prehistoric marine turtle after Archelon[2]. Its carapace lacked scutes (Osteoderms), which would have made it relatively lighter. Its diet probably consisted on slower moving sea creatures like jellyfish and shellfish.
