Platyhystrix was an amphibian from Carboniferous Texas. Like Dimetrodon and Edaphosaurus, it also had a sail, but it was not a Synapsid. Many of the animals from Texas and Arizona during the Early Permian Period evolved sails to control their heat due to seasonal climate.
