Thalassodromeus ("sea runner") is a genus of large pteradactyloid pterosaur from northeastern Brazil. Its name comes from its originally presumed lifestyle of skimming the water to hunt for fish. However, recent studies have proven that its neck wasn't strong enough to support such a lifestyle. It is now believed to have been a terrestrial predator, similar to azhdarchids like Quetzalcoatlus. It also had very powerful jaws, and may have used the, for stabbing prey in a similar way to terror birds, like Phorusrhacos. Its scientific name (T. sethi) comes from the Egyptian god Seth, who had a similar head shape. However, it is possible Seth might have been confused for the god Amun, who's crown has a much more similar shape to the head of Thalassodromeus.
