Mahajangasuchus was a mahajangasuchid crocodyliform that lived in the late Cretaceous period in Madagascar over 67 million years ago. This crocodyliform grew up to 3 metres (10 feet). It grew up to over a metre tall and probably weighed anywhere from 400-600 kilograms (881 to 1322 pounds).
Outdated size comparison
It was a very robustly built crocodyliform with its big heavy set head, large conical teeth and armoured back. Its fair to say that this would have looked like a terrestrial saltwater crocodile with a slightly different head and larger and stronger legs. It would have also had a comparable bite force to a saltwater crocodile which has the strongest bite force of any extant animal. Mahajangasuchus had a strangely built skull in that it was deeper and broader than its relative Kaprosuchus. The species would probably spent more time around water than Kaprosuchus because it had smaller - shorter legs. It would have been a macropredatory carnivore that primarily specialised in ambushing slow prey from the waters edge. Its conical teeth would have secured the prey while its massive bite force did the rest of the work.
