Bananogmius is an extinct genus of ray-finned fish that lived in what is today Kansas during the Late Cretaceous period. It lived in the Western Interior Seaway, which split North America in two during the Late Cretaceous.
Description[]
As with many plethodids, Bananogmius had a thin body reminiscent of the modern angelfish, dozens of small teeth, and a very high dorsal fin.
In popular culture[]
- Five Bananogmius briefly appear in The Land Before Time III: The Time of the Great Giving, where they are seen franticly swimming around in a pool of drying water formed in a dinosaur footprint. One leaps out of the pool and flops into the nearby river, where it swims towards a group of drinking Iguanodon. It is unknown what happened to the other four, however, it is likely that they did the same thing in order to stay alive.
- Although Bananogmius appeared Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure, that species is not considered to be a member of the genus Bananogmius, and is currently in the genus Pentanogmius.
- Bananogmius appeared in the Aquatic Park section of Jurassic Park Builder.
- Bananogmius appeared as a tournament Cave creature in Jurassic World: The Game.
