Bali Tiger
The Bali tiger (Panthera tigris sondaica)[1] is an extinct tiger population that lived in the Indonesian island of Bali.[2]

Results of mtDNA analysis of 23 tiger samples from museum collections indicate that tigers colonized the Sunda Islands throughout the last glacial period 110,000–12,000 years ago.[3] In Bali, the last individuals were recorded in the late 1930s, although a few animals likely survived into the 1940s and possibly 1950s. The population was extirpated because of habitat conversion and hunting.[4]

Balinese names for the Bali tiger are harimau Bali and samong.
